Summer Outings Programme 2021 ARCHIVE
Restrictions have curtailed our usual programme of summer outings. However, we have a couple of walks which are listed below.
There is also a short Summer programme of Zoom meetings starting 18/05/21. These meetings have been added to the programme page and will also be notified to members.
- Tuesday 13th July Redmires 7 pm: Leader Peter Mason
Meet at the top of Redmires reservoir. Drive out along Sandygare Road and Redmires Road, past the old Lodge Moor Hospital and the top of Wyming Brook until you see the top reservoir on the left. Thereis plenty of on-road parking here on the right, and there is a free car park off the road a couple of hundred yards on the right.
The walk will be an easy one along the conduit path, looking out for water voles which are occasionlly spotted here. You can walk back along the easy path or I will the slightly more intrepid ones back over the top of the hill, taking a survey of the old first world war training trenches.
The best after walk pub to aim for is the Three Merry Lads (I love the name) which is back on the road to Lodge Moor. They have lots of outdoor accommodation.
Tuesday 27th July Stanage Edge 7 pm: Leader Frank Milner
Meet at the car park on the left just after Burbage Bridge, on the road from Ringinlow to Stanage. Grid Ref SK260 830
Walk of about 2 miles onto and around Stanage Edge. There are views along and from the Edge, grinding wheels, climbers, rock formations, so plenty to photograph.
Drinks afterwards at The Norfolk Arms, Ringinlow.
Tuesday 10th August Kelham "Industrial Heritage" walk 7 pm: Leader: John Gorman
Meet at the Kelham Island Museum entrance at 7.00pm. On road parking or pay carparks in the area. Please note that some roads around Kelham are closed allowing the numerous cafes to utilise the roads for outdoor seating.
A short circular pavement walk of 1.6 miles exploring the 18th / 19th centuries industrial heritage of the area, with an anticipated duration of 1.5 hours dependent on stops. Discover a pleasant riverside walk, a monument to disaster, grade 2 listed buildings, a hidden bridge, a forgotten railway station, street art and many industrial buildings of the former Giants of Sheffield.
There are numerous pubs in the area with the obvious choice being the Fat Cat.
